Day 0 - 6 have been posted!

Now granted, the ride is all downhill (as is obvious from the above map), but still, 500 miles is still a long way.

In July, I will be cycling from the Twin Cities to Chicago in an event called the Heartlands AIDSRide.  I'll take six day's out my life and cycle over 500 miles to raise money for AIDS service organizations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.  This website is dedicated to my experience preparing for and participating in this event.

It all started in October when my friend Alisa asked me to go with her to a informational meeting for the 2001 AIDSRide.  She was already sure she was going to participate.  I was already sure that I'd rather cut my own hand off than ride 500 mile on a bike.  I suspected that the only reason she was asking me at all was because her husband flat out refused to even consider it.

So I went thinking I'd sit through a sappy presentation, push my way through any hard sell attempt, and be done with it.  Well, I certainly had the sappiness pegged.  The problem is, I'd completely underestimated how effective that sappy presentation would be.  By the end of it, I was completely convinced that I could not only survive the ride, but that I would actually enjoy the experience of the ride while making a difference, however small, in the world.  Cynical, curmudgeonly me thought that and still does.  It was a really effective presentation.

Dedicated to all of my sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible.
